Angel Reese says, “Another Natty Is Coming at 2023 ESPY Awards
“Last year I transferred from the University of Maryland to play at LSU, and I just joined a family,” Angel Reese said as she accepted the award.
At the 2023 ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, Angel Reese was honored for her breakthrough performance on the Louisiana State University women’s basketball team.
Reese has had an outstanding year, earning a household figure for sports fans after aiding the Louisiana State Tigers win the 2023 Women’s NCAA Championship earlier in the year.
The 21-year-old also promised LSU fans in her speech that there will be another.
“Last year I transferred from the University of Maryland to play at LSU, and I just joined a family,” she said. “So I just want to say thank you, and another natty is coming, period.”

Reese also specifically thanked her mother, who “put me and my brother through college.”
“And I just want to thank LSU, my family, my teammates, my coaches, she continued. “Everybody that helped me.”
Angel Reese defeated fellow nominees Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners, Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers, and Caitlin Clark of the Iowa Women’s Basketball.
The athlete, who was dubbed the “Most Outstanding Player” of the Final Four, was a prominent player for the LSU Tigers as they won the NCAA women’s basketball championship.
She discussed what the victory meant to her in a recent interview.
“I’ll go down in history for doing what I did, and our team will for winning. I’m happy we were able to do that for Louisiana,” she said.
The women’s championship game drew 9.9 million viewers thanks to Reese, the Tigers, and Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes. The Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns’ NBA Finals matchup in 2021 saw the same number of viewers.
Reese admitted that her quick rise to national prominence has left her feeling “overwhelmed” by the “so many” eyes on her, but she says the chance to serve as an inspiration has made her grateful.
“It’s a blessing, honestly. I’ve kind of embraced it. People are watching me,” she says. “I mean, it’s a fast life I’m living. I think I have to mature quickly.”
Angel Reese also included, “I’m going to learn from mistakes that I make, but I have a lot of great people around me that help me and I’m blessed to have them around me. I’m happy.”
