Former LSU basketball player Danielle Ballard died at age 29 “tragic accident”
Ballard tragically passed away on Thursday in Memphis, Tennessee, after being struck by a car.
Danielle Ballard, a former LSU Women Basketball player, was killed in her native Memphis, Tennessee, after being hit by a car.
According to the Memphis Police Department, the “tragic accident” occurred at 1:26 a.m. on Thursday not far from the FedEx Forum. Shortly after the accident, the 29-year-old was critically injured and taken to the hospital; however, when she arrived, she had already been declared dead.
According to the MPD, Ballard was on foot when she was struck in the left lane of southbound traffic by the front end of a car at the intersection of Coleman Road and Raleigh Lagrange Road.
Police said the driver stayed at the site, and the investigation is still ongoing. According to Fox News, no charges were filed at that time.

According to a statement released by Louisiana State University on Thursday, Danielle Ballard was “a standout basketball player” at LSU from 2012 to 2015, helping LSU go to the NCAA Sweet 16. In her three seasons, she averaged 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.4 steals.
The basketball player won several awards, including Louisiana Freshman of the Year, Women’s Basketball Team MVP, and nomination to the All-SEC Defensive Team.
Ballard was the 25th-ranked female high school athlete in the country when she was in high school. She lead Memphis Central to the school’s first state championship in class 3A in 89 years.
Following Ballard’s passing, her alma mater shared their condolences on Twitter.
The university posted a picture of Ballard playing basketball along with the statement, “LSU mourns the loss of Danielle Ballard.”
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Danielle. She was an important part of our women’s basketball family and meant a great deal to our program. It’s tough to comprehend that anything like this could have occurred to someone who was so full of life and potential. We are sending her family and friends our love and prayers, the statement said.
Supportive comments flooded in, with one person stating that “Rest in peace.”
Another person replied, “God bless her and her family.
