What’s going on with Amber Heard now? After Johnny Depp Defamation Trial
Amber Heard almost vanished from the public eye following her dramatic May 2022 defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp. So, where is she today, and does she still have an acting career?
Where Is Amber Heard Now?
The Aquaman actress and the Pirates of the Caribbean star met on the set of their film, The Rum Diary, in 2011 and began dating. The former couple married in February 2015, nearly four years later. Their marriage, however, did not last, and Amber filed for divorce from Johnny in May 2016. In January 2017, they formalized their divorce.
Despite their divorce, the Alice in Wonderland actor sued his ex-wife for $50 million in a defamation lawsuit in 2019 after she published an essay for The Washington Post in 2018 in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” While her article did not mention Depp’s name, his lawyers argued that the op-ed portrayed him as abusive and, therefore, slandered his reputation in Hollywood.
In response, Heard filed a countersuit against her ex-husband for $100 million.
The trial began on May 4, 2022, and ended less than a month later. The month-long trial became one of the most famous cases in the entertainment world, as the two stars made bombshell charges about each other while testifying separately on the stand.
The jury returned their decision on June 1, 2022, after a 13-hour deliberation, giving the What’s Eating Gilbert Grape star $15 million in damages and the Zombieland actress $2 million.
One month after the trial finished, Heard’s attorneys called for a mistrial after claiming that they discovered that one of the jurors was allegedly never summoned to serve jury duty. Nevertheless, the motion was denied by Judge Penney Azcarate on July 13, 2022.
According to court records acquired by In Touch, Heard filed an appeal later that month, and Depp filed his own petition to dispute the $2 million award in her countersuit.
However, by December 2022, both parties had dropped their appeals, and Heard addressed the situation in an Instagram statement at the time.
“I have made no admission,” she insisted. “This is not an act of concession. Moving forward, there are no restrictions or gags on my voice.”
Where Is Amber Heard Today After Johnny Depp Trial?
Heard stayed out of the public spotlight after the legal drama concluded. According to the reports she relocated to Spain with her daughter, Oonagh Paige, whom she received in April 2021.
“In April 2023, a source informed the newspaper, “She has been living in Spain, where she has more privacy.” “The trial was beyond stressful for her, and she just wanted to start fresh out of the country.”
Will Amber Heard Star in Future Movies?
Although she has not publicly discussed her upcoming film projects, Heard has been confirmed to starring her role as Mera in the upcoming Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
People reported in April 2023 that Heard is “excited about working and filming again” after being “disappointed about the trial.”
According to Insider, the teaser for the next action picture appeared at CinemaCon in April 2023, showing some of Heard’s sequences from the film. Some fans were taken aback by the news, as there had been rumors that Heard had been replaced by another actress.

Yes, Amber Heard is officially returning as Mera in ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’. Warner Brothers officially confirmed that she would not be cut from the next ‘Aquaman’ sequel. There was footage from the next ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’ film, which will be released later in 2023.
